We have completed our 2015 harvest and can now proudly show you our new product range. We added new machines for processing herbs; hence, the quality is better and our product is cleaner. On top of that, our slow drying process makes the taste better.
It is worth noting that we do not use any chemicals, pesticides etc., throughout the entire process- from the seeds, to the growing, harvesting, drying, cutting, and cleaning of the plants. Therefore, even though we are not a Bio registered company, our product can still be called ‘organic,’ nonetheless.

We have made a new product range for Damiana in 2015. We are currently getting our leaf from Mexico, however, the quality isn’t great enough for smoking blends, teas, or herbal cigarettes. That is why we do our own processing. We clean it from powder, stems and twigs as much as possible.

See what is available in our offer for the coming season:

1

Damiana standard

2

Damiana fine

3

Mullein

2 September 2015   /    Mullein   /    Comments Off on Mullein

Verbascum thapsus (Mullein) is a 2-year plant, native to Northern Europe, South Asia, North Africa, and North America. Mullein is commonly used as an expectorant. It is also very useful in relieving cough, and keeping the lungs healthy. Native Americans smoked it in order to clear the lungs. This is why Mullein, both flower and leaf, is a very nice base for smoking blends. Some people consider mullein to be the best base for herbal cigarettes, smoking blends or simply incense for refreshing the room etc. It is important to maintain the right amount of humidity for Mullein. Dried Mullein is not nearly as good as moist Mullein. Moist Mullein has a light, fresh flavour and is soothing to smoke, while dried Mullein is pretty tasteless and can even feel harsh.

Below you can see photos of our mullein flower stock.

It is well-known since the 60’s for its excellent smoke, producing slight, nice relaxing and mild aphrodisiac effects. It also makes for excellent incense, as the smoke is nice and very aromatic. It is commonly used in aromatic blends and herbal cigarettes. Damiana blends very nice with our marshmallow herb, producing light and aromatic smoke. Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) (also Marsh Mallow, or Common Marshmallow, Cheeses, Guimauve, Mallards, Mauls, Mortification Root, Schloss Tea, Sweet Weed, Wymote, Althaea officinalis, Althaea, althea, Althea Root, Althaeae folium, althaea leaf, Althaea officinalis L. var robusta, althaeae radi, althaea radix, Althea, althea leaf, althea root, Altheia, Apothekerstockmalve (German), bismalva (Italian), buonvischio (Italian), cheeses, Eibischwurzel (German), Guimauve (French), gul hatem (Turkish), Herba Malvae, hitmi (Turkish),Hock Herb, kitmi (Turkish),march mallow, Sweetweed, sweet weed) is a perrennial plant coming from the Mediterranean region. It is currently grown in Central Europe, mainly in Poland, Germany, Bulgaria etc.

The stems, which die down in the autumn, are erect at 3 to 4 feet (1.2 m) high, simple, or putting out only a few lateral branches. The leaves, which are shortly petioled, are roundish, ovate-cordate, 2 to 3 inches (76 mm) long, and about 1 1/4 inch broad, entire or three to five lobed, irregularly toothed at the margin, and thick. They are soft and velvety on both sides, due to a dense covering of stellated hairs. The flowers are shaped like those of the common Mallow, but are smaller and of a pale colour, and are either auxillary, or in panicles, more often the latter.
The stamens are united into a tube, the anthers, which are kidney-shaped and one-celled. The flowers are in bloom during August and September, and are followed by, as in other species of this order, by the flat, round fruit which are popularly called ‘cheeses’.

Marshmallow is very safe

There have been extremely rare reports of allergic reactions. Although there are no known reports or studies about marshmallow allergy, allergic reactions to marshmallow may occur.

Marshmallow leaf – Few words about quality

28 October 2011   /    Marshmallow   /    no comments
Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) used for blends requires good quality processing. The marshmallow herb that is typically sold in herbal shops contains the leaf with stems. This doesn’t matter if you drink it, but it produces much harsher smoke when burned. So, the key to good quality marshmallow is to have little to no stems and bigger veins in the herb. Unfortunately, due to difficult processing, less stems = higher price. Below you can see several examples of different quality marshmallow- from the herb to excellent, pure leaf.

In 2011 we have had such products in offer:

1

whole leaf hand-processed

2

cut leaf  good quality

3

cut leaf standard

4

cut herb

Also, it is worth mentioning that there are at least two varieties of marshmallow – dark green, common in north, and light green. At the moment we have both in stock.

Marshmallow whole leaf hand-processed

Marshmallow whole leaf, hand-processed. Looks perfect.

Marshmallow leaf cut and hand processed. As you can see, it has virtually no stems, making the lightest smoke clouds possible with marshmallow.

This variety of marshmallow is the most expensive one.

Marshmallow cut leaf – good quality

Very nice quality marshmallow. Contains only small amount of thin twigs (less than 1%). Finely cut leaf.

Marshmallow cut leaf – standard quality

Above is the marshmallow variety that is typically sold in herbal shops. It has some impurities (small twigs), but has also very good taste, and produces light smoke.

This Marshmallow variety is similar to the previous one, but has more twigs. We call it Marshmallow leaf standard quality.

Marshmallow cut herb

This is Marshmallow herb cut. Because of the large amount of stems and twigs, it is the cheapest one. The smoke isn’t great, and it is difficult to roll. Not recommended. The amount of stems is about 50% of herb (by weight).

Marshmallow leaf – An idea for blends

Dried Marshmallow leaf has a deep green colour, fleshy, soft leaves and delicate hairs. It is commonly used as an anti-irritant and anti-inflammatory herb. Marshmallow leaf has a very delicate smoke when burned in a pipe or a cigarette. It has also cough relieving properties for the lungs. It absorbs extracts well, serving as an excellent base to create aromatic incense. Just add a bit of essential oil and you will get perfect incense.
